ANTI LYSIS – Interactive Exhibition

For the last time the poster collection, Schule für Gestaltung Basel, will be presented with an interactive exhibition at the Exhibition Hall on the Lyss before relocation to the Campus of the Arts, Dreispitz Basel.

ANTI LYSIS

Lysis (/ˈlaɪsᵻs/ ly-səs; Greek λύσις lýsis, "a loosing" from λύειν lýein, "to unbind") refers to the breaking down of the membrane of a cell, often by viral, enzymic, or osmotic mechanisms that compromise its integrity.

The term “lysis” in the exhibition title is to be understood in the widest possible sense, while encompassing loss of identity, disintegration of social ties and spiritual alienation.

Based on Arnold van Gennep’s writings on the rite of passage, designated as the practice of profane and sacral actions and reactions, ANTI LYSIS is meant as a ritual to counteract disintegration and to create strengthened cohesion.

Visitors are accompanied and guided through the exhibition in groups of twelve. In each space they will experience shifting relationships and sensual perceptions. The exhibition-makers hope that the participants will be able to translate the experienced situations of the ritual into their own practices even after they left the institution.

To visit and participate in ANTI LYSIS please register on-site during the Bernd Spiessl-Symposium at the information/registration desk or, make an appointment by phone (+41 76 290 43 36) or by e-mail (kuratoriumlyss[at]sfgbasel.ch).

Please allocate approximately one hour for the duration of the ritual.
